What is this?
National Day of Action to Protect Our Democracy: Million of voters were disenfranchised by the Supreme Court Ruling in Shelby County vs. Holder on June 25th of 2013. The ruling stripped Federal Authorities of the ability to enforce the Voting Rights Act (VRA) and therefore rendering the Act ineffective. Since the decision, we've seen these same states implement laws that disenfranchise voters, and disproportionately impact young people and communities of color, including voter ID laws, gerrymandering and voter purges.
This year Congress has introduced legislation to restore voting rights protections in the VRA - in a new piece of legislation called the Voters Rights Advancement Act (HR 4). If passed, this would once again provide teeth to the voting rights protections; designed to ensure every person has a voice and equal access to the polls. We are counting on you to stand with the League of Women Voters Space Coast (LWVSC) and other community representative on June 25th. Additional information will follow about location and time of the rally. Protect Our Democracy
