Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)

The League of Women Voters of the Space Coast (LWVSC) has outlined a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) program aimed at fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for its members and community. To ensure DEI is sustainable; organizations must embed it into their core structures and operations rather than treating it as a standalone initiative.


LWVSC's vision is to ensure members feel safe, respected, engaged, motivated, and valued for their identities and contributions.

LWVSC's mission is to embed DEI as a standard practice within the organization.

Goals and Activities for 2026-2027

This mature program includes measurable goals such as:

  • Increasing DEI awareness through newsletter articles
  • Incorporating diversity in recruitment policies
  • Including DEI in Speaker Bureau presentations
  • Creative inclusive events, educating members and leadership
  • Partnering with experts for training
  • Establishing train-the-trainer projects
  • Leadership engagement and accountability measures are also emphasized

 

Integration with Stakeholders and Outreach Focus:

The DEI plan prioritizes outreach to historically underserved groups including African American, Latino and other minority communities, especially those from lower-income backgrounds. It aims to enhance voter registration, education, recruitment, retention, and advocacy efforts, ensuring diverse perspectives are respected and inclusion is promoted through LWVSC activities. The DEI committee collaborates with the Membership and Voter Services committees.
